Read this before you order for NSW
Transport for NSW does not accept NAATI translations for a licence transfer. For that specific transaction they only accept translations from Multicultural NSW, the Department of Home Affairs, or certain consulates.
Our translation is still valid in NSW for driving on your overseas licence, hiring a car, showing police, or giving to an employer. It is not valid for the transfer itself. Check the Service NSW link above before you pay.
Do you actually need one?
You’ll generally need a certified English translation of your overseas licence if you are:
- Converting your licence to an Australian one.
- Driving here on your overseas licence — most states require it carried alongside the original, or an International Driving Permit instead.
- Hiring a car, starting a job that involves driving, or dealing with police or an insurer after an incident.
Deadlines vary. WA gives permanent residents three months; Victoria works on six. Check your state’s link above.

What we need from you
Just the licence itself. Send it after your order is confirmed — we’ll email you a secure upload link.
- Both sides — front and back, even if the back looks blank.
- Clear and complete — all four corners in frame, nothing cropped.
- Readable — a phone photo in good light is fine; a scan is better.
- PDF, JPG or PNG — any of these work.

Frequently asked.
Is a NAATI-Certified translation what the road authority actually wants?
In most states, yes. NAATI is the national certification body for translators in Australia, and VicRoads and the WA Department of Transport both accept NAATI-Certified translations. Your PDF carries the stamp and practitioner number so it can be verified.
The exception is a licence transfer in New South Wales, where Transport for NSW only accepts translations from its own approved list. See the resources section above.
Do I need to post you the original licence?
No. A clear photo or scan of both sides is all we need — keep your licence in your wallet. Nothing is posted in either direction.
Can I get a hard copy?
The certified PDF is the deliverable and it’s what’s accepted in practice. If you specifically need a printed and physically signed copy posted to you, tell us in the form and we’ll quote the postage.
What if my licence isn’t in Spanish, Portuguese or Catalan?
Then we’re not the right people for it. A NAATI certification is issued per language pair, and ours cover Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan into English — we can’t certify anything outside those. You can search NAATI’s public directory of practitioners to find someone certified in your language.
My licence has expired. Can you still translate it?
Yes — we translate the document exactly as it is, including the expiry date. Whether an expired licence is any use to you is a question for the road authority, not the translator.
Does Ultra-Express really mean 20 minutes?
In practice, yes, provided we have a readable image and it’s within working hours. If for any reason we can’t start immediately we’ll tell you straight away rather than let you sit and wait.
How do I pay?
Card or Australian bank transfer. Once you submit the form we’ll send you a confirmation with the payment options and your order number. Work starts as soon as payment is confirmed.
